Astilbe

Facts About Astilbe

There are roughly 20 species of perennials in the genus Astilbe, which belongs to the family Saxifragaceae and is endemic to Asia and North America.
On thin, erect stems, astilbe’s plume-like blossoms rise above green, fern-like leaves. Depending on the cultivar, these eye-catching clusters of little white, pink, or reddish blooms bloom from spring through autumn. It’s easy to care for Astilbes, which are also beautiful cut flowers. They’ll also attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies to your garden, so don’t forget about them!

According to the Greek terms “a” (“without”) and “stilbe” (“brightness”), the genus name refers to the dull leaves of certain species.

The flower spray is known as “False Goat’s Beard” because of its resemblance to a beard in terms of both shape and color.

An ideal accent to any bridal bouquet or centerpiece, astilbe comes in a range of gentle, antique tones.

As the name suggests, astilbe represents the virtues of patience and devotion to a certain someone.

If only they blossomed in the winter, these beautiful perennials would be wonderful for any season, even weddings!

Despite the fact that Astilbe’s meaning isn’t as well-known as that of many other flowers, its beautiful blooms have long been associated with patience and devotion to a loved one. It is a symbol of a pledge to wait for the one you love, no matter how long it takes, by giving this flower. Because of its extended life span and sturdy character, this wildflower is an excellent emblem of the power of one good love. Don’t use a bunch of roses as a way to express your feelings for someone!

The combination of Astilbes and other shade-tolerant plants, such as Hellebores and Hosta, is ideal.
Flowers like this can illuminate even the gloomiest corners of the yard!

Astilbe in Floral Arrangements

How to Care for Astilbe

If you're feeling really sophisticated, you may place an astilbe on your bedside table or coffee table by itself. Get your hands on one of those gorgeous flowers and bring it in. Use clean, sharpened scissors to cut the stem at an angle and avoid crushing the stem, ensuring that your flowers receive the most water possible. If you want to guarantee that your flowers last as long as possible in your home, they should have large, brightly colored buds that have swelled. The easiest way to maintain your Astilbe looking and feeling their best is to trim the stems and change the water every two days..
